What time of the year is the best time to visit Samoa?

The temperature in Samoa ranges from between 24 to 32 degrees Celsius year round. Samoa does not have a summer and winter as such but rather a wet and dry season. The dry season is from April to October/November.

What airlines fly to Samoa?

Air New Zealand, Virgin Australia, Qantas and Fiji Airways have regular flights to Apia, Samoa .

What currency is used in Samoa?

The Samoa decimal currency is based on the Tala (dollar) and Sene (cent): 100 Sene = SAT$1 (Tala).

What is the main religion in Samoa?

The main religious denominations in Samoa are Congregational, Anglican, Catholic, Methodist, Seven Day Adventist, Bahai, Latter Day Saints and Jehovah's Witness. Sundays in Samoa are dedicated to God, with families usually attending church in the mornings followed by a family to'onai (lunch) and resting for the remainder of the day. If I wish to drive in Samoa, am I required to have a Samoan drivers licence?

Yes and this can be obtained by presenting your current valid licence to the Police Department in Apia and paying the fee of SAT $10. Driving licences can be obtained also from the Ministry of Transport on Savaii near the ferry terminal.

What is the time difference between New Zealand and Samoa?

Samoa is one hour ahead of New Zealand except when New Zealand is on daylight savings when both countries are on the same time.

What is recommended dress in Samoa?

Light summer clothing is appropriate all year round, with perhaps a light sweater for the cooler evenings. Smart casual evening wear is appropriate for hotels and restaurants. Visitors are requested not to wear bathing suits in Apia or in the villages. No nude or topless (for women) swimming or sunbathing. Women are recommended to wear a lava-lava (sarong) or dress, rather than shorts or trousers, if they attend church.

What do I need to bring to Samoa?

It is important to bring insect repellent, a sunhat, sunscreen and any of your favourite snacks.

Are there any activities provided by Savaii Lagoon?

Yes, there are kayaks, a selection of board games and small library available for guests to use. Complimentary village demonstrations are held when the numbers are sufficient.  Bookings are requested.

Are there internet facilities available?

We have paid wi-fi available at the Barefoot Bar & Restaurant. The cost is $8 WST for a day pass.

Where can I change my currency?

It is best to change at the airport in Samoa or the banks in the townships. This will give you the most competitive rates. Make sure that you have enough cash as eftpos facilities in Samoa are not readily available.
